WE BUILD Project update: getting ready for the implementation phase

WE BUILD will be co-organizing several sessions at the Global Digital Collaboration Conference 2026 in Geneva, Switzerland. It's the global pulse of cross-sector innovation: 3 days to bridge gaps and solve for interoperability with 2,000 sector leaders, hosted by the Swiss Confederation at Palexpo. 

The WE BUILD Consortium, a large-scale European collaboration advancing the EU Digital Identity Wallet (EUDIW) and European Business Wallet (EBW) for business use, today announced its 2026 General Assembly will take place in Bucharest, Romania, hosted by Visa and Banca Transilvania. The gathering will bring together 450 representatives from the consortium's more than 200 participating organizations across 28 countries, to review and celebrate progress on their 13 use cases in the domains of business, supply chain and payments.

On June 9, the Council adopted its position on the proposal to establish European business wallets, a digital tool designed to simplify and secure business interactions across the EU, both between companies and with public administrations.

As part of the WE BUILD Consortium, we are setting up a dedicated Payments Community focusing specifically on the role of digital wallets in the payments ecosystem. The main purpose of this initiative is to share our progress and facilitate a practical exchange of views with external stakeholders.

Today, the European Commission published its proposal: “Regulation on the establishment of European Business Wallets.” European Business Wallets will be accessible to businesses of all sizes, the initiative will simplify economic activities in the Single Market and strengthen the competitiveness of European enterprises

Today, we’ve officially launched the WE BUILD Consortium! More than 180 organisations from 26 countries are joining forces to shape the next stage of the European Digital Identity Wallet. This large-scale European collaboration unites public authorities, private companies, academic institutions and technology providers to develop 13 pioneering use cases across the domains of business, supply chain and payments.

The General Assembly marks the launch of a groundbreaking European collaboration. This event provides a unique opportunity to connect with key stakeholders, shape the future of Europe’s Business Wallet and Payments ecosystem, and build momentum through plenary sessions, breakout workshops, and networking.
