Today, however, authentication and access processes are often burdened by administrative complexity and heightened fraud risk, caused by fragmentation, cross-border barriers, and limited interoperability between systems.
EU Digital Identity Wallets (EUDIW) and European Business Wallets (EBW) have the potential to fundamentally improve this landscape.
By offering a common regulatory framework and built-in cross-border interoperability, these wallets help streamline, secure, and digitize transport processes that are still heavily dependent on paperwork. EBWs could simplify and secure the activities of businesses and personnel within port areas, including clear identity verification and digital signatures. They can reduce administrative burden, provide a trusted digital infrastructure and enhance security - unlocking a more scalable, fraud-resistant, and truly European approach to authentication and access for transport.
*eFTI and eCMR Regulation aims to replace paper-based documentation with electronic data in all transport modes (road, rail, inland waterway, and air transport).
