Today, access to cross-border public services often requires repeated submission of supporting documents, even when the data already exists in another Member State. While the Once-Only Technical System (OOTS) enables authorities to exchange such evidence, access is typically mediated through service providers and can be fragmented from the user perspective.
The EU Digital Identity Wallet (EUDIW) and EU Business Wallets (EBW) can improve how users access and interact with OOTS.
They can provide a more user-friendly and reliable way for representatives to identify themselves, give consent, and manage the exchange of evidence, alongside existing access channels, which will continue to exist. In addition, OOTS can be used to retrieve official documents and place them into the wallet for future reuse. This creates synergies between European infrastructures such as OOTS and eIDAS2, supporting a more efficient and reusable approach to handling business evidence across borders.
